Biodegradable Bamboo Cell Phone

Designed by Dutch designer Gert-Jan van Breugel the biodegradable bamboo phone was a runner up at this year’s Greener Gadgets Design Competition.  The phone is made out of bamboo and is powered by cranking a handle on the back.  When your done with the phone, the user can remove the battery, antenna, and keypad and place the casing in soil where seeds embedded in the shell will produce new bamboo shoots.

I’m always looking for uniquely designed retail spaces, and today I came across these pics of Ksubi’s Melbourne store known as the Bombed Maché store which recently won Australia’s 2008 Interior Design Award.  Eighty percent of the store is made of cardboard or other recycled materials…

Available in green and orange, the Glow Rider by Puma “is a unique, yet practical, mode of transportation for urban commuters.”  The bike features a built in lock that, when tampered with, disables use of the bike, and the bike can be folded for easy carrying on a bus or subway.  More info here…
